Fast-fashion company Brandy Melville is taking heat for laying off\u00a0Allegra Pinkowitz<\/a>\u00a0\u2014 a teen TikTok star who\u2019s known for drawing groups of young girls to the brand \u2014 from its flagship Soho store.<\/p>\n

On Thursday, Pinkowitz, a high school senior, posted a TikTok to her 164,000 followers with the caption \u201cjust got fired!!\u201d It has since racked up nearly 7 million views.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis was so unexpected, you guys don\u2019t understand,\u201d Pinkowitz, who worked at the lower Broadway store for two-and-a-half years, said in a follow-up video.<\/p>\n

The Brooklyn-based teen said she was about to take a shower when she got a text from a male manager at the store asking her to give him a call.<\/div>\n
\u201cWhen he calls, he\u2019s basically like, \u2018We didn\u2019t make as much money as we were hoping to this summer so we\u2019re laying off a bunch of people,\u2019\u201d Pinkowitz recounted. \u201cHe was like, \u2018This has nothing to do with your work ethic. It\u2019s just, we need to lay people off.\u2019\u201d<\/div>\n

\u201cI guess this just, like, stings more because I\u2019ve always talked really positively about this brand online. This video isn\u2019t to hate on the brand. Sorry, I\u2019m so sad!\u201d Pinkowitz added, bursting into tears. \u201cI expected a little bit more loyalty.\u201d<\/p>\n

Social media users were quick to bash the brand \u2013 noting that the Soho store regularly has lines of young women wrapped around the block and that Pinkowitz, in particular, is known for drawing middle- and high-school girls to the store.<\/p>\n

In a New York Magazine profile on her last summer, one co-worker estimated that 20 to 30 different groups of tween girls approach Pinkowitz during every weekend shift.<\/p>\n

Yet another complained: \u201ci don\u2019t get how SOHO brandy melville isn\u2019t making enough money?? the lines take up the whole corner!!!\u201d<\/p>\n

The California-inspired retailer has weathered several storms over the past few years, including backlash over its \u201cone size fits most\u201d clothing \u2013 which is designed to fit women sizes extra small, small and medium.<\/p>\n

The company has repeatedly been\u00a0accused of hiring only conventionally attractive, young, blonde workers<\/a>. Pinkowitz, who is blonde, told New York Mag that she only got a job at Brandy Melville after applying \u201clike 20 times.\u201d<\/p>\n
